Erol Ending

Erol's ending is one of the two most complex endings in the game, as it involves most of the larger events that can be performed. Also, the two variations of Erol's endings are drastically different in their execution. Follow along carefully!
The hint babe linked to Erol's ending is Elisa.

  1. After the opening conversation with Madam Appleby, head to the kitchen and talk to Gilroy.
  2. Pick "Did you want some help?" to help Gilroy make lunch for the guests. At the end of the conversation, he will give you the "Sandwich" he made. Yum...!
  3. While in the kitchen, grab the "Red Herring" and then head up to the wine cellar to get the "Lantern". You will need them both later.
  4. Find and talk to Gilroy outside of your Father's room. Monica will offer to help him with the laundry and Gilroy will now be following you.
NOTE: When a boy is following you, you are unable to use any item except your Diary to save.
  5. Take Gilroy to the laundry room in the servant's quarters in order to trigger the cutscene. Pick "I'll take one of these when he's not looking." during the conversation to take one of the uniforms, or pick it up off the table after the scene. Either way, you need the "Servant Clothes."
  6. Head downstairs and towards the library. Skyler will be blocking the entrance. Talk to him once and then give him the "Sandwich" in order to make him move.
  7. Go into the library and talk to Clair.
  8. Now, head outside through the courtyard to the training grounds. A cutscene will trigger where you'll be asked to help Erol get past a monster. Erol will now be following you.
  9. Head into the squire's dorms to trigger another cutscene.
  10. Give the "Red Herring" to the cat and you will acquire the "Antique Chain" and "Kitty" items.
NOTE: Believe it or not, what you say to Erol here has no affect on the game. So don't freak out if you say you aren't sure about talking to him again.
  11. Once you leave the squire's dorms you will be confronted by Aydin who will ask you to give him the "Antique Chain." You can give the chain back to him, or give it to Clair in the library. Either way will move Clair from his current position.
  12. Talk to Erol on your way through the courtyard and you will agree to somehow help him look like a competent squire. Good luck with that one!
  13. If you did not give the "Antique Chain" to Aydin, give it to Clair now in the library.
  14. Search the bookcase behind where Clair was standing before to reveal a secret passage that takes you to the catacombs.
  15. Use the "Lantern" so that you can see where you are going.
  16. Make your way past the traps until you come to a person trapped under a net. Examine the person, Hyde, and pick "Let me help you." He'll be ungrateful about it, but the conversation will continue. Pick "I'll help you!"
  17. Give Hyde the "Servant Clothes" and he will follow you. Take him to the servants’ quarters and store him in the boys' room for now.
NOTE: If you step on a net while Hyde is with you, there is no penalty. Asides from shame.
  18. Return to the courtyard and talk to Erol. Pick "There's a thief in the castle!" and Erol will follow you.
  19. Head back to the servant's quarters and you'll notice that Hyde is gone. Talking to Gilroy will tell you that he ran off after hearing some of the servants talking. It is up to you to find him.
NOTE: It is possible to have removed Gilroy from the servant's quarters before taking Erol there by reaching Step 20 of his ending. In the event that he is gone, one of the female servants tells you what happened instead.
  20. Search the castle for Hyde. You will need to find him three times before he runs towards the throne room. The first two times he will randomly appear in one of the following locations: the dining room, outside of your Father's room, the children's wing, or the library. It is random whether or not he will be in these spots, so there is a very small chance you can visit each one without seeing him. Once you've caught him in a location, he will never appear at that location again. The third location you will find him will always be the coat room near the entrance. After talking to him here, he will run towards the throne room.
  21. Go back to the servant's quarters and talk to Erol. He will follow you again. Go to the throne room where you saw Hyde run.
  22. The final cut scene will trigger, you have only to watch it and it will lead into the ending.

Variation

In the variation, you enlist the help of Aydin in order to let Erol catch the thief. The beginning of this version is very similar. Follow Steps 1-9 as before, however, at Step 10 also grab an "Apple" from the kitchen. Next, during Step 11, choose to give the "Antique Chain" to Aydin by picking "I should do what he says...." If you do not, then head over to the stables and give him the chain there by talking to him and picking, "Yes, I'm sorry about earler." No matter what, do NOT give the chain to Clair.

Continue steps 12-17, however, stop there. Do not tell Erol about the thief just yet. Continue as follows.

  1. Head back to the stables and talk to Aydin. He will tell you that he hasn't been looking after his horse well enough lately.
  2. Give Aydin the "Apple." If you do not have one, you can grab one from the crate outside of the stables or from the crate in the kitchen. After the conversation, Aydin will leave.
  3. Once Aydin leaves, go to Skyler's room where you will find him talking with Skyler. As he leaves, he'll see you and ask you to meet him at the training grounds to talk.
NOTE: This scene will only occur after you have advanced both Erol and Hyde to 'stage 3' of their endings. That means, having Hyde in the servants' quarters and having talked to Erol once after he moves to the courtyard. Without meeting these two requirements, Aydin will not be in Skyler's room even if you have given him the apple for his horse. If you are having troubles triggering this scene, make sure you meet the above criteria. Chances are, you forgot to talk to Erol once.
  4. Head to the training grounds and Aydin will be standing outside of the stables. Talk to him and agree to have him help you with helping Erol by picking, "It should be easier if we work together."
  5. NOW head back to the courtyard and tell Erol about Hyde by picking "There's a thief in the castle!" This is where the first difference is, as you will not take Erol to the servants' quarters but goad him into going on his own.
  6. Go on ahead of Erol to the servants' quarters and talk to Hyde to convince him to stay put for a bit. Doing so will trigger an event that ends with Erol asking you out on a date. Pick "I would love to!" to trigger the ending.
